Chromac, it looks like the INTC software works with a piece of format converter hardware from Hitachi (or others). INTC is quietly doing some work in the leading-edge software area, maybe this is one of the results. Wouldn't the format conversion take place after the MPEG2 decode at the appropriate profile/level? Also, since Hitachi developed the format converison hardware, it seems that they would have developed at least the framework if not the architecture for the conversion software -- although it's hard to believe that Hitachi does too much original thinking in the software area. Why is format conversion so tricky? Is there more to it than converting one line format at a certain field/frame rate to another line format at a different field/frame rate? I realize that is much easier said than done....
