Amazing how accurate Augustine turned out to be. And he based his beliefs strictly on the Bible Time is always something of great import when seen as something in short supply. Even to the extent as seeing it as a "thing", which it is after a fashion. Combined together space/time truely do form all the heavenly geometries rising from the inevitable motion of all things. He who could both create & yet live outside of time & space is about as far as the human imagination can go, glory glory, we just found the fountain of immortality of the great one hiding all the while behind time & space. ( the human imagination finds the divine, or thinks it has ) Yet what we see in religion is/was always an attempt to compensate for this shortness of our brief stay in the body. Augustine had lots of help also from outside the bible, from other branches of the evolving philosophical tree of men's thought on mortality, morality & codes of ideal living that came long before, the focus on a human alchemy of divine humanism & controled altruism that brings all men's souls to the light, to immortality. Most of the writings of the early theologians were quite consumed with an overall impending end of times scenario believing judgement was soon at hand. Given the actual shortness of the human lifespan, the will to live & have continuance , such evolved ideas reaching such an apex of theological complexity , do have a very original natural source basis which is pretty easy to see. Like the song "I want to live forever , i am going to fly high", swing low sweet chariot & Mohammed flys back to heaven on his winged steed.
