Apple asks agency to halt iPhone and iPad ban set for August

by Jeff John Roberts

SUMMARY:A patent ruling that forbids Apple from importing older versions of the iPhone and iPad will soon take effect – Apple asked the ITC to take the unusual step of issuing a stay.

Less than four weeks before an import ban on popular Apple products will take effect, the iPhone maker is asking the International Trade Commission to stay the ban while a court considers an appeal.

In a motion filed Monday with the ITC, Apple said the ban, set for August 5th, will “sweep away an entire segment of Apple’s product offerings,” and also harm its phone carrier partners.

The request is the latest twist in the interminable worldwide legal battle between Apple and Samsung over smart phone patents. The NSA Has Inserted Its Code Into Android OS, Or Three Quarters Of All Smartphones

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/09/2013 - 20:34

Over a decade ago, it was discovered that the NSA embedded backdoor access into Windows 95, and likely into virtually all other subsequent internet connected, desktop-based operating systems. However, with the passage of time, more and more people went "mobile", and as a result the NSA had to adapt. And adapt they have: as Bloomberg reports, "The NSA is quietly writing code for Google’s Android OS." Is it ironic that the same "don't be evil" Google which went to such great lengths in the aftermath of the Snowden scandal to wash its hands of snooping on its customers and even filed a request with the secretive FISA courtasking permission to disclose more information about the government’s data requests, is embedding NSA code into its mobile operating system, which according to IDC runs on three-quarters of all smartphones shipped in the first quarter? Yes, yes it is.
