Microsoft re-org places Windows Phone head in charge of Windows

The much rumoured re-organization of Microsoft’s internal structure has now finally happened, and it has led Terry Myerson, corporate vice president of the Windows Phone Division,to now become the head of all OS development at Microsoft.

The division is described as such:

Operating Systems Engineering Group. Terry Myerson will lead this group, and it will span all our OS work for console, to mobile device, to PC, to back-end systems. The core cloud services for the operating system will be in this group.

The re-org is meant to bring the qualities of nimbleness, decisiveness and collaborative working to Microsoft, and divides the company by function rather than fiefdom.
