On eBay, the word "used" is defined as "The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended." A digital video camera with its only digital out port mangled does not constitute "fully operational" and "functions as intended." The words "as is" are only applicable when specifically applied, e.g. "has a big dent" or "the lens cap is missing" or even "the DV port is not operational".

One seller said his camera was in perfect shape except that the tape would not eject. He advertised it as "not working or for parts" for that reason, saying that perhaps it was a simple fix or perhaps not, but he didn't care. I researched it and found it was not only not simple, but exceedingly expensive. Had I bought that camera on the cheap in the hopes I could fix it myself, but could not, stupid me because the "as is" label would surely have applied.
