Obama came in to office in '09 not in '10. Yes the first budget that was drawn up from scratch as his was for 2010, but as president he pushed spending up in 2009.

Also if you put the recent years by congress, then its the Dems who are mostly responsible for the increases, and the Republicans (even though they only control half of congress) for the recent restraint. Certainly if either Obama, or the congressional Democrats, had their way spending would be going up faster.

But your right that many Republicans are big spenders as well. Notice neither of the quotes I posted in that post you replied to, said anything about party.

More generally big government isn't just about spending. Higher taxation is also bigger government. Even more importantly more laws, regulation, and control is bigger government.
