It may feel like irony to you, but that's simply not the issue in a court of law. The question is whether Zimmerman felt his life was in danger at the instant he shot Trayvon. Who started the fight? Irrelevant. Who would have WON the fight without the gunshot? Irrelevant. Just like tons of killings every day, the facts are not clear. And in this country we are not supposed to send someone to prison on a semi-wild-assed-guess. If there were proof that Zimmerman was not in danger, I'd have a different attitude. But all of the evidence available suggests that he was. His injuries; the only eyewitness testimony, and most importantly, the fact that he clearly was being beaten (after all, Zimmerman had injuries indicative of a beating and Trayvon did not). Sorry, but there is just not enough evidence to convict this man. And if every leftwinger watching MSNBC holds hands and demands a conviction, it does not alter the fact that there is insufficient evidence to convict. OTOH, there was plenty of evidence to convict OJ and a jury let him walk. So miscarriages of justice do happen.
