Both sides play the POLITICS.

At least until the Tea Party showed up. Now the Republicans just play Russian Roulette. Each Republican now holds the election gun up to his head and says, "How many Hispanics, Blacks, and Liberals have I got in the chamber?

If it doesn't look like too many (and it doesn't with most of the new gerrymandering) then they just click off a few more rounds with the expectation that they'll probably be able to keep their jobs for another 2-6 years.
