Well, we weren't there. The best evidence available is that he did make that statement. One can argue that Zimmerman was lying, but it would be strange since the rest of his story held up against fairly rigorous scrutiny. In fact, even the police officer who testified for the prosecution essentially believed Zimmerman's account of things, and clearly didn't believe any charges should have been brought. If at some point, evidence to the contrary is presented, I'd be interested in hearing it. Until then the best evidence is that Martin did say it.

Well, that's correct -- but losing a fist fight when your head is being pounded into the pavement can easily mean also losing your life.

So, answer the question: How many punches would YOU tolerate before using your weapon? Would you allow yourself to be beaten unconscious and refuse to shoot the attacker?
