One cannot even begin to imagine the splendor that was Athena's statue in the temple of the city that bore her name. If that were an idol you should be thanking god for the thought, skill that went into its construction that led onto to further skills (& all later architecture)

What did you find following but more centuries of inconography & saintly idols. But for the control of thought & demanding obediance, yes, its part of the evolutionary aspect of religion to sever ties to older forms & unite under the new regimes , new idols. Few in the world today, except some moron fundys in Islam are not in love with the classic statues of the human form or depiction of the graceful animal either for that matter.

This idea embodied in this female statue form, brought more wisdom into the sphere of man than all the books of the bible put togther & all its writers together, including baby Jesus who preached & repeated stories alot very late in the game (like they do today). She inspired a civilization & was the womb that you & the Hebrews crawled out of, as for Islam , fuck those upstarts too.

If you don't like Athena ...then go fly to NYC & check out Lady Liberty and how many she has inspired.

(and think the seat of embodiment of "ideas" )

Old man Moses didn like Idols? Maybe that's part of the reason they lost everything & were annihiliated, no skillsets for art or the imagination , just fundmentalism.

The popes sure liked idols though, try Rome's Villa Borghese one of the finer collections of that papal dynasty & trust me they were not poor or humble either. (surprise surprise)

And what was the moral of the story of Apollo's chase of Daphne concerning the transience of pursuing earthly pleasure, love & passion? About 500-600yrs before baby jesus is born? Beauty...
