Re -- 486GX presario 2200... Also this piece of junk does not fit into CPQ's BTO model. Its a seperate line, with its own seperate MB's and components and software. Thus the low volume 486GX "sub-1000" pcs as steve likes to call em..could really turn out to be more expensive than pentium/pentiumII boxes. (economies of scale). Stockman

Stockboy: What 'low-volume' are you talking about with '486GX'??? The Presario 22XX series is by all means not 'low-volume', as much as you would like to think it is. Just calculate: if in Sep-97 CPQ sold around 200k Presarios, and some 60% of that number was sub-zero, then how many of those would be Presario 22XX??? Probably all of them, right?! What is 60% of 200k??? In my book definitely not low-volume (in case you don't know how to do maths that would be about 120k units in Sep). BTW - Source: IDC Report. While I agree that this is not a PC I would want to own (would consider myself more of a 'power user'), what is low-volume about this machine? It's profit margin? Quote CPQ CFO: "ROIC is above 100% on sub-zero PCs" Also, to counter your 'low-cost' statement about Dell/HWP: a). Presario 22XX is now beginning at $549 (w/o monitor) b). show me a Dell that is even below $899 (w/o monitor) c). the HWP $899 is also w/o monitor and is also (at least) partly OEM Try and answer those questions seriously, or choose to add me to your list of hate-response targets - I don't care. Bottom-line for anyone to take your never-ending spewing of verbal diarrhoe serious you should stick to facts and basics and not try and win personal wars here.
