Tulvio,

To produce 1000 units/month, Cymer will need enough of the following:

1. Factory space
2. Subcontractors
3. Supply of key components
4. Design engineers
5. Assembly/test engineers
6. Installation/service engineers
7. Assembly/test equipment

Do they have all of the above, or just the factory space and assembly equipment?

I would say that Cymer does not actually have numbers 4, 5 and 6 right now, or they would be bleeding money because they are only producing at the rate of 500 units/year. So what are they going to have to do to ramp to 1000 units? They will have to hire the above engineers in volume, and train them. This is not an easy process, and makes me a little uneasy.

Any comments?

Tulvio, I believe that a thread like this one can and should strive to find out what is the real base on which we are trying to value this investment. Two other posters before (THC and Robert G.) are helping with some concrete input, just saying I am too conservative without pointing out where this consrvatism is does not help all of us to evaluate the market.

With THC and R.G. input we can try and improve on this forecast. Lets try again and say that by 2000 we have 120 foundries with an average 40,000 wafer start per month. We know that the processing rate of the DUV system is 100 wafer per hour (this is the current number for 200 mm but from the article posted by R.G. we find that the industry will keep the same processing rate).

From THC we learn that there are a total of 30 lithography steps in the processing of a single wafer. We now have to find out how many are going to be DUV and howmany not.

Does any one knows?
