MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 1997--OPTi Inc. (NASDAQ:OPTI) announced today that it has formed a new group to provide IC design and implementation services to the electronics industry.

Called AVIVA, this group will provide IC design and implementation solutions to the semiconductor industry.

AVIVA has evolved from OPTi's internal technology and operations capabilities which have significant experience in bringing high volume chip sets to market. Given the rapid growth in the semiconductor industry over the past few years, and due to many design houses having insufficient resources to implement their product designs, a need has arisen for design services and foundry capacity.

Unlike other companies who offer certain similar services, AVIVA is in a position to offer any or all of the services required to implement product designs.

"AVIVA is in a unique position to provide turnkey services including IC design, test and production," said Jerry Chang, chief executive officer at OPTi. "Our expertise and investment in this technology will allow our customers to shorten the time-to-market for their products."

"OPTi's design, layout and test capabilities are considered a principal part of its core competencies." said Dr. Jun-Wei Chen, vice president of the AVIVA group. "AVIVA now offers these capabilities to IC design houses allowing them to meet the highly integrated requirements of the semiconductor industry."

AVIVA's market-proven design experience is based on a robust design methodology which has been applied to many products manufactured by various fabrication facilities. Our background in operations, quality assurance and failure analysis has been accepted by our large OEM customers including IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, and other leading PC manufacturers.
