That would make more sense but the Tertiary period is 2 to 63 Ma which encompasses the age of 50 Ma. For those really keen on ages the tertiary can be divided into the neogene subsystem 2 to 24 Ma and the Paleogene 24 to 63 Ma and/or subdivieded into the epochs Pliocene 2-5 Ma ,Miocene 5-24Ma, Oligocene 24-38Ma, Eocene 38-55 and Paleocene 55-63Ma. Now if you really want to impress people at cocktail parties we are in the Phaneroic Eon, Cenozoic Era, Quaternary Period, Holocene Epoch and Plastic Age. Walt
