Detroit used to be the "motor city", the town with the greatest collection of automobile builders in the world. It now has ONE auto plant. What's happened to it is totally understandable, and strictly due to globalization.

The same thing happened to Birmingham, in Britain, which used to produce almost all the steel in the world. WE took that industry, and have since lost it to lower cost producers.
