when or if the money starts rolling in, argentina will manufacture some detail to halt chevron's getting or keeping its share of the money. it could come from the president's office or the legal branch, but it will surely come. it could also come by argentina's slow-paying some debt or bill it owes to chevron. there are many ways to get hosed by a kleptocracy. i am not even mentioning (until now) the legal problems chevron might have with repsol outside of argentina. heck to make this deal work, chevron is perhaps getting some big dollar amount up front before it has to spend a penny in argentina.

Milei wants to privatize YPF.
Privatizing YPF: the impact of the company in Vaca Muerta and the other basinsThe president-elect confirmed that he will privatize YPF, but did not set deadlines. Vaca Muerta, Palermo Aike, offshore and infrastructure works in the spotlight.

Javier Milei's plan remains . The president-elect confirmed that he will seek to privatize several public companies during his term. YPF and Enarsa enter that combo.

In radio statements, the leader of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) confirmed that the majority state company will once again be 100% state-owned. “Everything that can be in the hands of the private sector, will be in the hands of the private sector ,” he stated.

However, he explained that it will not be in the short term. “ YPF first has to be recomposed . Since (the former Minister of Economy of the Nation and current governor of Buenos Aires, Axel) Kicillof decided to nationalize it, the deterioration that has been done to the company in terms of results so that it is worth less than when it was expropriated. Obviously the first thing to do is put it back together,” he highlighted.

Nor did he provide timelines on when progress would be made on privatization. “In the transition that we are thinking about in the energy issue, YPF and Enarsa have a role. As long as these structures are rationalized, they are put to create value so that they can be sold in a very beneficial way for Argentines,” he considered.

It must be remembered that YPF was privatized in the 90s during the presidency of Carlos Saúl Menen. In 2012, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's management acquired 51% of the shares, which led a group of investors to sue Argentina. The North American justice system determined that the country must pay 16 billion dollars as compensation to the plaintiffs.

The role of YPFThe majority state company is responsible for making Vaca Muerta a reality . She was in charge, together with Chevron, of carrying out the tasks at Loma Campana , the historic site of the unconventional formation. The learning curve of the flagship block allowed the development of other star shale areas.

He is currently the leader of hydrocarbon activity in the country. The production records maintain it as the top operator in the data of the National Energy Secretariat. Likewise, it is carrying out the Vaca Muerta Norte and Vaca Muerta Sur projects that will provide relief to the evacuation of crude oil in the Neuquén Basin in addition to more foreign currency for the national coffers.

Another initiative where YPF is the protagonist is the LNG regulatory framework . The company together with Petronas signed a memorandum of understanding to install a plant in Bahía Blanca – where the land has already been reserved – and they hope that the proposal, which has half a sanction in Deputies, will be discussed in the Senate to begin work. The initiative would allow Vaca Muerta gas to be monetized on a large scale.

He is also in charge of the exploratory project in the Northern Argentine Basin (CAN) where the Argerich Well is expected to become a new Vaca Muerta. And in the Austral Basin he develops, together with CGC, the first Palermo Aike shale well , which on paper has a third of Vaca Muerta's reserves.

Likewise, the company is responsible for maintaining activity in different productive basins: Manantiales Berh (Chubut) and Llancanelo (Mendoza) are the witness cases. He also heads the exploration of Vaca Muerta on Mendoza soil.

Although Milei maintains its intention to privatize YPF, the project must be approved by the National Congress. La Libertad Avanza has a bench of 39 deputies and 7 senators and to be able to privatize YPF it needs the support of other forces. Until now, the legislators of Together for Change were not in favor of the sale of the company.

In addition, it must have the support of the provinces. The president-elect maintains a good relationship with some leaders, but none of them are close to him.

Javier Milei has not yet taken office, but he has already advanced the line that his government will follow
