They sited the UPS strike and slower than expected back to school sales. The real reason was DELL in my opinion. Not to mention CPQ, IBM & HWP. I know the GTW bashers out there will say, "well, Dan what has changed from that qtr to this qtr"? My only answer is that XMAS is truely the consumer or entertainment market for computers. After this qtr......well.....I'm getting out. The next revolution for box makers needs to arrive soon. I hope GTW can get there first. I know they are working on video conferencing. Can you imagine the boxes that would be sold if every phone out there were to be changed to a video conferencing machine? They (GTW) have always been in the chase for TV/PC convergence. I saw Phifer(Spelling is probable incorrect) Chairman/CEO of CPQ at Comdex declare that CPQ was the inventor of this convergence. Of course, we all know that it was GTW. The reasons for the shortfall last Qtr were one time events. But, if GTW can't come up with "marketing 101" events to "Value Add" their boxes and truely set themselves apart from the commodity crowd.....watch out. Last months issue of PC World ranked all the boxes worth mentioning in the $1800 to $2500 range and gave their opinions about the models being discussed. Then they chose their favorite. Out of about 12 box makers (all the big boys were in the comparison) GTW was FIRST. Theirs (GTW) was DVD enabled. It was not the cheapest. DWW II
