Theo, a free website for TA that I use everyday is IQC at iqc.com . Its BB is very useful. One way of taking advantage of temporarily out of coherence stock is when it trades outside its intraday BB. For example, during the recent slide when MDCO was riding the lower band lower, see207.95.154.130 there were numerous occasions when it traded lower than the lower band intraday, e.g. on Oct 27, the 8th and 12th TRADING day in November as seen in the chart. We knew what happened on Oct 27 and it was an exceptional day and in fact Oct 26 also had similar pattern. There was a panic selling and the whole market tanked. The brave ones may use that as a buying opportunity but in reality one is lucky if one can get through to the broker at that time. Now on the 8th and 12th TRADING day in Nov, MDCO again traded outside its lower BB intraday. I bought MDCO around $24 on both occasions and sold it within the next day for a quick turnaround trade. It turned out to be good, low risk trades. MDCO is a volatile stock and is a good candidate for trading like this. But since MDCO kept going lower, the lower BB also kept going lower. $24 which was a good intraday entries on both occasions became a lousy entry point later. I have at least taken advantage of situations like this half a dozen times and I have not taken a loss yet in a trade like this. Heyward - what is a Stochastics in simple term? You answered part of it already. There are two lines and their difference is the number of day used for the moving average. It calculates the closing price with respect to its intraday range. Think of it like this: if a price closes at the low of the day, it carries a negative weight. If prices kept closing near the low for say 5 consecutive days, then the negative weights keep mounting and the Stochastics lines trend down. Since one is moving faster than the other, sooner or later they will cross when the trend is reverse. If one wants to know its technical definition or greater detail, I suggest doing some readings from books or the internet. I really hope people can turn to proper TA threads or other resource for TA questions.
