For shits and grins I picked some catalpa seeds two years ago. One actually made it in the pot. I just planted it in the yard and it's doing good. I grew it from seed and I'm proud to see it. Gonna do more this winter.

That is called DEforestation. The Sahara Desert probably had a lot of trees at one time Who knows what happened to them? What happened to the Cedars of Lebanon?

A lot of people complain about clearcutting, and equate it to deforestation. WRONG!! Clearcutting is a regeneration method designed to replace an old decrepit forest with a new fast-growing one. It is only one of many different methods of regeneration.

Some years ago a high school class wrote to my office to get information on clearcutting. I knew they did not understand what they were asking for, so I sent them a map of the area that they were living in and going to school in. A hundred years or so ago the entire area was forested, and every one of their homes and their school was formerly a forest, eliminated through DEforestation.
