Many get paid very well up there Ted in government in union jobs that would pay a fraction of what they would make in the sunbelt. Goal of most is retire early from that rat race with the nice pension to somewhere much cheaper and less hectic. To make matters worse did you know rents going sky high on the back side of a massive shortage of housing post Hurricane Sandy? I think we feel a minor boomerang impact all the way down here as more and more 'escape'.
