Z, Sullivan is arguing against a straw man.

No one would have cared if Weiner were single. In fact, the sexting could have helped his political career, especially in the town of "Sex and the City."

But the fact that he was married with a kid on the way made it absolutely creepy. Only way it wouldn't was if Anthony and Huma declared they had an "open marriage," which AFAIK hasn't happened yet, and even then it's not clear whether that would have been acceptable, even in NYC politics.

The whole argument that "everybody sexts" is irrelevant, and Sullivan is wasting his time making it.
