ALL: year-end tax loss selling... if i sell a security at a loss, how long do i have to wait before buying it back so i can write off that loss against my capital gains? also, are there any hard-and-fast rules about whether call options and the regular stock are equivalent for these purposes? thought this was an appropriate place, since the bk in tech stocks has made losses an issue for me for the first time. not looking for professional advice, since i'll have a cpa do the real paperwork, just looking to estimate my capital gains for the year. thanks in advance to all respondents.
