They were able to make the yacht go in any direction they wanted, while the yacht's GPS was showing it was on course to the pilot/captain...

Ya know, that just sounds a bit like the net result of the Stuxnet virus planted in Iranian nuclear enrichment facilities. It disabled the speed control governors on the uranium centrifuges while transmitting info to the plant operators that everything was hunky dory, until the centrifuges started coming apart from over speeding.
