probably because there are more seal or some other sea creature that the libs have but a limit on harvesting

I grew up on the Oregon Coast, and went fishing and crabbing whenever I could as a kid. The guy who owned the bait and tackle shop out on the dock kept a 30.06 on the wall. Whenever a seal or sea lion swam into the bay, he'd grab the rifle and blast away at it, right off the dock.

The bay was empty of seals and sea lions back then, but was full of fish (sea perch, tom cod, flounder, greenling, migrating salmon and steelhead, and schools of herring and smelt) and lots of Dungeness crabs. Now the bait shack is gone (and the old guy who owned it), and the fish and crabs are mostly gone as well. But there are numerous federally protected fat seals and sea lions basking on the spit and swimming in the bay.

Times change..
