These days, you hear less than you used to about alleged African-American social dysfunction, because traditional families have become much weaker among working-class whites, too. Why? Well, rising inequality and the general hollowing out of the job market are probably the main culprits. But the new research on social mobility suggests that sprawl — not just the movement of jobs out of the city, but their movement out of reach of many less-affluent residents of the suburbs, too — is also playing a role.

I am the first to complain about sprawl...........that it provides few benefits and many more negatives. However, I think its one of the lesser reasons for the economic problems facing too many Americans these days. I think there are not enough good paying jobs and employers have gotten into the habit of using minimum wage as typical pay. And when people complain they need more money, the corps pull out the globalization meme as an overhanging threat. If globalization were the serious problem every corp claims it is, then these corps would be not making the kind of profits they are making. They too would be feeling the heat of competition. But that's not what's happening. Instead, these corps are making money hand over fist. Their profit margins are not suffering.

Remember how there were WMDs in Iraq and we just had to put Saddam out of his misery. Well I am getting more and more convinced the threat of globalization is nearly the same thing. IMO.
