CONCLUSION: Fair-playing field for individual investors.

To all, let's shelve the discussion for just tonight. I can't get access to my e-mail account right not, but I've been meaning to start 2 new threads: one on digital VCRs and the other on the fair-playing field idea.

Once the thread is up and running, I'll post and we can all convene there. It makes sense to petition for a law requiring equal access to information. I would be in favor of a two-stage requirement. All companies which have a web site as of June 1998 would be required to comply by Dec 31, 1998. All other companies (depending on criteria like market cap) must comply by some later date.

But for now, lets concentrate on QNTM on this thread and save the good ideas for the new thread. If you have definite ideas, e-mail me and I'll incorporate or edit them for the thread header statement.

-Bill

Agree. One of the exciting things about the internet is that it is the first major multipoint-to-mulitipoint multimedia-interactive technologies that has developed. The power of the internet has been likened to the geometric progression of the interconnects and we are at the early stages of figuring out how to harness it for mutual benefit. It is just this kind of on-line creative thought process that is an early example of how powerful the technology will become. I think that as we realize how much change is inevitable, it should encourage us to take steps to think about formats for the internet and teleconference practical use (these technologies will converge completely before too long).

Thinking from the company's perspective, providing information in a uniform manner via the internet and recorded calls will 1] cut down on the amount of work they have to do responding to individual questions and requests, and the number of meetings they need to attend. 2] Provide a way that they can both look out for the interests of investors and protect their legitimate actions from troublesome misunderstandings and legal actions.
