We had forces in Kuwait near Basra, a major Shia city not being brutalized by Saddam. Yes, he subdued the Shia and Kurds uprising right after Desert Storm in the early 90s when Schwarzkopf let Saddam keep and use his helos. But the Kurds then became quite independent of Baghdad and Saddam as we over flew the Kurdish areas. The Christians kept their liquor stores open and many of the Shia militant clerics were in Iran or quiet in Baghdad. There were no daily car bombs going off killing and maiming thousands of Shia by Sunnis or revenge by Shia. And the Inspectors were back in and Saddam was not brutalizing his people certainly anymore than he was in the 80s when he was Reagan and Rumsfeld's "buddy".

And I always wondered where this 25K number came from? I saw Sn Allen of Va on the Senate floor one day talk about Saddam and his 30K gift to suicider families...that number seemed to grow with each speech, like all those dead babies left in Kuwait City by the Iraqi invaders... We do know that the Israelis destroyed the homes of those families...maybe Saddam sent prebuilt homes from Iraq to those families or sent squads of Iraqi home builders in to the West Bank to rebuild those homes or he just gave them debit cards to be used at the local Iraqi Bank office in Ramallah to get their 25K or 30K or 35K or maybe he just sent over suitcases stuffed with Dollar bills or dinars or Egyptian pounds or maybe barrels of crude to take to their local refinery for gasoline which they could then sell from their gas station provided by Saddam and his squad of builders.

Saddam was NEUTRALIZED...the Kurds were growing more independent of Bagdhad each day as we over flew their territory. And there were no daily senseless car bomb killings. And oh yes, there were no WMD there either. Bush couldn't even find them in the Oval Office. And the Inspectors were back in finding nothing.

But Bush invaded and got his revenge, got thousands of Americans and Iraqis killed or maimed for life, borrowed and squandered $Trillions and created a deadly mess. That is not a "dream".

But hey, we got a $Billion Embassy out of it that we probably can't safely leave if we can safely get to it.
