Hens love maggots. A daughter in law uses bits of meat in a trap to catch flies for her frogs. When I mind the house and the meat is too disgusting and is full of maggots, I empty the fly catcher onto the lawn the two bantams go nuts scoffing into the maggots.

Eggs are delicious, maggots are disgusting. There is a large insect larva in New Zealand called a huhu grub which Maoris supposedly ate back in the day before Europeans arrived with supermarkets and pre-cooked chicken. Given the paucity of food back in the day, it's not surprising that supermarkets and large incomes [compared with hunter gathering in forests in a loin cloth] lead to obesity.
