>> The only people who listen to talk radio because they think teevee and the internet are too new fangled.......too progressive.......are Rs.

Actually a lot talk radio listeners are, if you can believe it, people who WORK for a living.

>> We listen to the radio for music................to be entertained. Talk radio is a throwback to the 1930s when people sat around the radio listening to FDR

Limbaugh essentially created the genre in 1988. While there were a couple of predecessors (Larry King, for example), they had no major listenership. It was Limbaugh who made it it what it is, and amazingly, his audience has been strong for the entire time.

>> Limbaugh doesn't flying nearly as high as he once did.

There is a lot more competition from other media than there once was, and there a lot of talk radio alternatives that weren't there 15 years ago. Still, Limbaugh just walks all over everyone else and probably will until the day he decides to retire.

While I've not listened to him in many years -- at least on a consistent basis -- he is still the most intelligent talker out there and his show is run with perfection.

Hi tejek; I think the reason conservatives have the top radio shows is that people who work for a living listen to it at work. Every time I go into a shop / garage, they've got the radio on and if it's talk radio, it's conservative.

Actually liberals have been trying to shut down talk radio for decades. Boycotts, FCC complaints, running candidates who said they'd shut it (and Fox News) down ie Howard Dean.

I suspect Limbaugh's show all by itself is more profitable than MSNBC.

MSNBC has revenues of about $180M a year from both ad revenue and subscriber revenue. But that isn't profit. They may not be profitable at all.

Meanwhile Limbaugh takes home $50M a year personally. Incredible. And he's been doing this for 25 years.

And he obviously makes profits for his carriers or he wouldn't be making that much money.
