..if you are an accepting adherent to any defined set, or subset in the case of Christianity , of rules

By definition you are not existentialist

..if you are one of the guys on the fringe trying to modify the rules, by virtue of actually having thought about them, and are trying to create your own flavor of Jesus worship by adding or subtracting ingredients, like Henry the VIII, I would see that process as creative
