So white collar criminals can learn their lessons, as you say, then why put them in prison instead of reprimanding them? Most of these white collar criminals are productive members of society. It is just that they slipped by being in say fraud and embezzlement and can quickly recover if they are allowed to continue to produce and be hit with a fine that hurts them. Through public announcement of their crime, their reputation will be hurt anyway and that itself should be more than it would do to a street criminal. We have to be progressive in how we deal with crime and I am happy that Obama is someone who does so.
