ROY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1997--
Animation and Video Editing Professionals to Benefit from the New
Standard in High-Capacity Removable Storage
Iomega Corporation (NYSE:IOM) today announced that Digital Equipment Corporation, a market leader in Windows NT solutions, plans to include the Iomega Zip drive as a standard feature in their new Creation Studio Personal Workstations.
Designed to offer optimal multimedia ability to high-end PC customers, Zip-enhanced workstation systems will be available beginning this month.
"The integration of new technologies such as animation and video editing creates a need for storage that goes beyond that of the traditional hard drive," said Reese Gautschi, Digital product marketing manager for the Creation Studio line. "Iomega's Zip drive brings our customers the flexibility they need to maximize the power of their Windows NT personal workstations."
Iomega's Zip drive is the new standard in high-capacity removable storage, with over 10 million drives shipped since its introduction in March of 1995. In addition, Iomega's 100MB Zip disks offer up to 20 times higher performance and 70 times the capacity of traditional floppy disks, giving customers the ability to digitally store, transport and manage electronic mail, digital audio clips and storage-intensive multimedia files.
"The evolution of multimedia computing has created a growing demand for increased storage capacity," said Andy Grolnick, director, Zip OEM business for Iomega. "Through access to the Zip drive in their Creation Studio workstations, Digital's multimedia customers will be able to easily store, manage and transport their audio- and video-enhanced files."
Many top international PC vendors include the Zip drive as a standard or optional storage solution in desktop systems, including Acer, Apple, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, HP, IBM, Micron, Motorola, Packard Bell/NEC, Power Computing, Sony, UMAX and Unisys. In addition, many PC manufacturers include the notebook Zip drive as a standard or optional feature, including notebook PCs from Acer, Chicony, Clevo, Compal, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, IBM, Micron, NEC, Sharp and Siemens Nixdorf.
