A child can succeed in the worst of schools if they have great parenting and role modeling. And a child can fail miserably in the best of schools without good parenting and role modeling.

However, if it is a question of which is critical, the answer is definitely the significant adults in the home life of the student. They almost always make the difference, one way or the other

Yes you just said it better than I ever have... We can take all the money we waste in the Middle East wars and put it into education but without great parenting and role models at home and the community it will also be lots of money thrown down the drain

No one disagrees with your point about the importance of parents. But how do you address that problem? That is the question?

Very poor uneducated parents don't know what to do.

So what is more critical to a childs upbringing? Parents and role models or a better school system in the formative years?
There is absolutely no question about this. A child can succeed in the worst of schools if they have great parenting and role modeling. And a child can fail miserably in the best of schools without good parenting and role modeling.

We should still do everything we can to provide good school systems and their are hero teachers in the world who perform near miracles. However, if it is a question of which is critical, the answer is definitely the significant adults in the home life of the student. They almost always make the difference, one way or the other.
