A poorly known fact..................even though the city of Detroit was getting hollowed out, the overall metro area continued to grow in population throughout the 20th century.........Detroit losses were more than made up in the suburbs.

Yes, especially in the northern suburbs it seemed to be an American success story, safe communities, nice homes and shopping centers, thriving as much as any other metro area in the country
