I think there is also a limited number of leased lines. The last time I looked OC12 (622 Mbps) was fairly rare. If that is the case, and high bandwidth LANS that need to send multiplexed 2.5 Gbps out over the WAN are limited - only customers building their own LAN/WANS are available.

Are there any reliable numbers on how many of these folks there are? A distribution of average traffic/bandwidth utilization per LAN per hour would be ideal.

I have read all the Gilder stuff, but I agree with you - there is a potential slowdown at least until all the necessary support systems are at full capacity. The cost of high speed leased lines is also a limiting factor for small businesses.
