McGovern, never became president, and didn't really have the power from other sources to cause a lot of harm. I've never seen evidence that Nixon was racist, or that he did anything noteably criminal before the election (you where talking about the voters being uninformed, which implies something already existing). Not that I'm going to expend too much effort to defend Nixon. As president he was a big government guy, expanding regulation, imposing price controls etc.
