NAMPA, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1997--

Micron Powerdigm XSU and integrated core logic's 'stellar
performance' shine again

Micron Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ:MUEI), received top honors
from PC Magazine for the Micron(TM) Powerdigm(TM) XSU, a "pace setting
workstation" that garnered a slot in the trade magazine's Best of
1997 annual feature.
"Not every PC company can design its own PCI chip set, but Micron
Electronics can and does so extremely well with its pacesetting
workstation -- the Micron Powerdigm XSU," writes Jake Kirchner in the
January 6, 1998, issue of PC Magazine.
In the same issue, Jim Seymour touts the same system as "the most
sensational hardware product of 1997." Additionally, Seymour writes,
"With Micron's Samurai chip set driving the PCI bus at 66 MHz, plus
plenty of memory, a second 300-MHz Pentium II CPU, and Windows NT
Workstation 4.0, the Powerdigm XSU is the fastest, most satisfying PC
I've ever used."
"Technology innovation -- not merely integration -- as seen in the
Micron Powerdigm XSU allows customers to maximize their performance
and keep the entire industry striving to improve," said Dean Klein,
Micron Electronics Executive Vice President of Product Development
and Chief Technical Officer. "Therefore, Micron Electronics isn't
the only winner in the computer competition; our customers enjoy the
success as well."
The Micron Powerdigm XSU, Micron's second workstation product and
first product to incorporate Micron Electronics' exclusive Samurai(TM)
chip set, was awarded earlier in the year the highly coveted Editors'
Choice award in the September 23 issue of PC Magazine. In the
review, the Powerdigm XSU performed more than 50 percent faster than
its competitors in some benchmarks.
"We are delighted that Micron's Powerdigm XSU was designed from
the ground up to be optimized for Windows NT(R) Workstation 4.0," said
Jonathan Roberts, Director of Personal and Business Systems Group,
Microsoft Corporation. "Micron's workstation customers will benefit
from the unmatched reliability, security and performance of Windows
NT Workstation 4.0 along with the far-reaching breadth of leading
Windows NT-based technical and personal productivity applications."
The Powerdigm XSU offers features such as the Fire GL 1000 Pro
66Mhz video card with 8MB of SGRAM and the Fire GL 4000 based on the
Evans and Sutherland Realimage 1000 technology for significantly
enhanced performance in 2D and 3D applications, the new 19"
(18" viewable display) Hitachi monitor, and a 12/20x SCSI variable
CD-ROM.
Starting under $4,000, the Powerdigm XSU integrates the following
features to give end users unparalleled workstation performance:

-- Support for dual 266MHz or 300MHz Pentium(R) II processors
with ECC
-- 512KB internal L2 secondary SRAM cache for each processor
-- Up to 1GB ECC SDRAM
-- PCI 32-BIT Ultra-Wide SCSI-3 controller
-- Multiple Ultra-Wide SCSI-3 hard drives
-- 12/20X variable speed SCSI CD-ROM drive
-- 1GB Iomega Jaz drive
-- Microsoft(R) Windows NT 4.0
-- Two ISA, three 33MHz/32-bit, one 66MHz/64-bit PCI slots; one
ISA/PCI slot shared
-- Phoenix plug-and-play-ready flash BIOS (upgradeable)
-- Micron Samurai PCI chip set
-- 1.44MB 3.5" floppy disk drive
-- Number Nine and Diamond Fire GL Series professional graphic
accelerators
-- Wavetable sound with Powered computer speakers
-- Dual Monitor Support
-- 3Com 3C905 PCI 10/100 Ethernet NIC
-- One parallel, two serial, two USB ports
-- 5-year/3-year Micron Power(SM) limited warranty

"The core reason for the unit's stellar performance on our
benchmark tests is Micron's Samurai PCI chip set, which allows the
Pentium II/300-based workstation to be configured with two
independent PCI buses -- a standard 33-MHz, 32-bit bus and a second,
66-MHz, 64-bit bus," Kirchner reported. "The 64-bit PCI bus helped
the Powerdigm to outpace other PentiumII/300 workstations on many of
our graphics tests."
