I have found Barron's and Forbes to be useful for ideas, as well as Investor's Chronicle, which is a weekly investing magazine published in the UK and Ireland (I am Irish), which is pretty decent.

I like to use simple screens too, and have been using what I call my "Quality Value" screen, as follows:

P/FCF < 10.0x
ROIC> 15%
Debt/Equity< 0.4

I use this as a basic screen and often add gross margin (> 30%) and some other criteria depending on what results turn up and any particular themes or ideas I want to test, as well as what types of business/industry candidates operate in, arising from the results.

Given where markets are, I'm really looking to find good businesses with a single digit P/FCF multiple with high and consistent ROIC. I've also looked at stocks near new 52 week lows.

Separately I've been looking for cigar butt type stocks trading less than book, less than cash with positive operating cash-flow. I've found a few trading for less than cash and book, but none with positive OpCF. Frustrating times we live in.
