Re "$2,199 for a 233 Pentium II is awfully high. If you are not hung up on "name brands" you can get a 266 PII including a 17" monitor, 32meg ram, 4gig HD, 56k modem CD ROM, sound, software, etc for the same price. "

Yes I know this.

OTOH the Vaio system already has the convergence of TV and
computer that is coming, albeit in todays' technology.

In one small "cool" looking box a child can have a TV, computer,
stereo system, game system, internet acces, video-conferencing and video-editing system. Heck if I wasn't so bummed out by INTCs price
drop I'd love to get one for myself too.

It would later make a great kitchen entertainment/recipe system when she outgrew it.

Yes I know you can buy pieces and put together a system for less
(if you can ever figure out how to get the IRQs etc right) -
but trust Sony to always come up with the best and most useful
combo of features (BetaMax excluded).

I personally think the Mavica disk-equipped digital camera is also at the top of a lot of people's wishlists. I think the digital camera is a huge market just waiting to explode once the 2k by 2k resolution is
reached - Intc is going to be a player in this (I wonder if they should
try for a product instead of just the compnents - don't know the pros and cons

Best Regards
