They have more money than us.

And to turn that money in to useful military ability takes a long time and a lot of political will.

We ramped up in months during WWII.

No we ramped up for years, starting before the war. And it takes longer now. Weapons systems are more complex. Decisions involve more red tape, and a longer political debate. Also WWII tends to focus the mind a bit more than lesser situations.

And of course they live better.

No they don't.

They have universal health care, affordable education and get more vacation.

If you define universal health care broadly they have it, but if you define it very broadly we do as well. In any case there are aspects of their health care and health insurance systems that amount to living "less well".

They also have lower real incomes, smaller living spaces, they pay more taxes, etc.
