True, but also irrelevant to the issue of resolving Fan's and Fred's actions in a crisis situation (having to buy unverified or risky loans).

The issue is, Koan, how to put enough risk back in the mortgage system so that lenders are careful, but not too careful. Banks need to have their own skin in the game so that just can't kick the risk up the line to the government, and this is what Obama is trying to bring back--as I understand it---by phasing out Fannie and Freddie over 5 years.
