I have no reasons, just evidence. The reports that I've been reading (I've published the links already) say that PC sales seem to have dropped in November, while inventory has built up.

A future reason might be that
1) Asia traditionally gets out of trouble by exporting. They also prefer to export finished products rather than raw material. That would indicate a future emphasis on shipping PC's as opposed to just chips.

2) Windows 98 and NT 5.0 are being delayed. That screws up the business plans of many big companies which rely on them. They may therefore delay purchases of computers---after all, new computer purchases are somewhat linked to new services offered by the new computers. The biggest service is a new operating system.

3) Wage inflation is starting to pick up. Meanwhile, prices of goods seem to be stable/decreasing. Thus, profit margins will be affected, leaving less money for capital purchases.
