I think the tax laws have changed on shorts in last couple years, so I'm not sure. Before you could hang on with tax free money, I used it a couple of times to divert income to the next year. Not sure that works any more. I'll try and find out today on tax law and covering.

TD, I think that the lion's share of the Farallon short postion has been in place since 1995. They have added to it over the years, but I think that the Dec 5 filing was the first sign of covering. I thought that the arbitrage position would include the lion's share of the 3.6 million short position (for everyone) reported as of Nov 15.

TD, let me get this straight. The bet is on what day LGND will exceed its 52 week intraday high of 18 3/8? Is that correct?

LGND manages yet another gain closing on bid of 13 15/16 and ask of 14. Up a mere 1/16 on the day.
