We have two different concepts going on here...........you want to blame all the current problems with the black community on welfare. I am saying that welfare doesn't matter. What matters is getting them when they are young and educating the hell out of them so that they have alternatives when they are adults; so that welfare, gangs, drugs, dealing and thieving are not their only options.

And I am also saying how can we both know this as a fact. I have shown, I think, that are vastly more single parent families nowadays then before (I know it is true for white folks), but I only surmise it is because the young single parent can marry a welfare check. I don't that as a fact.

And you think that education is the cure for kids of single parents--without proof that kids of single parents living in poverty will take to education.

So how do both we, you and I, and us as a nation resolve this?

I don't know of any other way than to set up studies to try and measure the effect on people's behavior.

One way would be to run test pilots in several states in different geographic regions ending welfare going forward.

Another way would be to build the kind of schools you are advocating for kids poor kids in several states and see what comes.

We do need to do something to arm our children for economic success.
