You basically define anything that you see as good in politics as "liberal", and then use that definition to "prove" that liberals are good.

The main problem with that is its a tautology, it shows nothing and supports nothing.

A secondary problem with it is the vagueness of the term liberal, which can mean directly contradictory things.

No, that doesn't make your point. The north wasn't liberal or even all Republican in 1860.

Take a look at Woodrow Wilson, a liberal racist ... he was a progressive supporter of the KKK. FDR was another one - he put a KKK member on the Supreme Court and picked another one for his VP. Liberals were openly anti-black until the 1960's. Heck, even JFK voted against Eisenhower's 1957 civil rights act.
