>> So they elected FDR. FDR told his adviser Henry Hopson?, the first day, to go out and see what the people need and come back and tell me-----today!

Then, FDR did some things he had to do to put people to work.

But he also, like Obama has done, created roadblocks to hiring that managed to drag the Depression out for ten long years. We are going on five years with this recession and no end in sight. U6 unemployment continues at 14%, essentially where it was when Obama took office. More people are sucking taxpayer tits than ever before.

And the economy can't recover, even though it would like to, because employers cannot hire people due to increased cost of hiring.

Obama has repeated the mistakes of the FDR administration that caused untold pain and suffering. I'm not sure we'll ever learn.

That Hoover did nothing is a common misconception. He greatly increased government involvement in the economy (which is part of the reason why the Great Depression became the Great Depression)

As for FDR, he didn't save anyone, the depression continued for a long time. Some of his actions (like leaving the gold standard) helped, but others were harmful. And he didn't so much sign about caring about what people need. People needed food, FDR presided over a vast destruction of food. People needed lower prices, he had government agents go after people for discounting. People needed flexibility to run their businesses in different ways to respond to difficult conditions, FDR pushed more and more centralized government control of business activity.
