I know the power of education as I have watched it perform magic all my life. Just last night I had a discussion with my daughter who is a scientist studying three branches of science: environmental, computer and quantitative analysis.

What we discussed was how each year of school takes one to a new level of understanding, including ones ignorance.

At the same time I have studied how uneducated people think and the difficulty they have with basic logic.

I have studied this stuff since I was in my 20's because I was fascinated with the subject and own path from total ignorance, to where I am today.

Much of what you advocate is impossible to many people because you are assuming ideas over their head.

I find that your penchant for numbers/data to validate effectiveness of programs borders on a bureaucratic approach to problems. I would rather look at other types of events such as what is happening in E. Palo Alto. Would you have the figures for how many African Americans are coming out to vote. I am looking at the effort to suppress their vote and that in itself drives me to conclude that the Voting Rights act has been successful. Similarly I see that developers have started to build new homes in E. Palo Alto and they would not have done so if they could not sell those houses due to poor condition of roads, high crime rate, depressed city revenues, poor schools etc.

It is also preposterous to ascribe problem kids to children being born out of wedlock and single parenting. What about the impact of divorce? We don't consider divorce a taboo as we do what happens in families that are African American. We need to quit looking at problems/issues based on skin color/race.

And it is not marriage because it is a human made institution. It is commitment that we need to look at. Married folks neglect their kids too due to not being committed. It is commitment and not marriage
