I have watched too many poor women suffer abusive relationships and loveless marriages to listen to that crap <<. It destroyed the women! No, women had to hang in there with a marriage and this taught kids a number of things. 1. You better not rush into a marriage because once into it you were in it for life. 2. Relationships meant you had to work at them and take them seriously. 3. Kids grew up with a role mode of a Father who had to go to work and support them and boys knew this was going to be their job as men. 4. And families watched out for their young women so they wouldn't become damaged goods. Yes, this restricted adults freedoms, but you didn't have many kids being raised by single parents--at least not in the white middle class.

And as far as the kids go, the liberal kids with modern families usually do better in life as they are more knowledgeable about the world. Their parents discuss the modern world with them candidly My kids used to tell me how the conservative kids lied about what they were doing and who was doing what. My kids never had to lie to me. And they trusted my judgment. When both went off to college I told them a little alcohol and pot and nothing else as it was all dangerous. Both kids held to that. I have conservative friends who have lost kids to drugs because they didn't talk to them, honestly. Peer pressure is the dominate influence these days and the only way to prepare a kid is to give them as much knowledge as soon as possible and be their for them, not try to hound them with antiquated ideas.
