The feds used force to keep states from leaving. Can a state terminate it's "contract" with the USA?

Since all 13 agreed, no, the feds didn't force them in to either the article of confederation, or the later constitution.

But the colonies/first states, and even the people at the time, are not the people now. The colonies/states might have made a contractual agreement of sorts. The people then didn't, the people now are even further from such an agreement.

Which is not to say that I want to break up the US, only that its an elected and appointed government not a partner in a contract.
