To all: Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, there is a call-in/talk radio show broadcast on Saturday nights, 7-10 pm , hosted by Leo LaPorte, who until recently, co-hosted a cable TV show with Soledad O'Brien that was underwritten by ZD Net, for which he won an Emmy award( I don't have cable, so I never saw the show). He is a very respected and knowledgeable high-tech analyst, and has a huge cult following in this neck of the woods. He also works in the ZD Test Labs. Last Saturday, two consecutive callers requested info about utility software. He recommended three programs that are " must have," Symantec Anti-Virus(he likes it most because of free virus definition updates ad infinitum), Norton Utilities(he seems to favor pro-active toolsets, rather than more passive run-in-the-background diagnostics and repair), and CleanSweep Deluxe, which he called " the most effective, easy-to-use uninstaller for both the novice and experienced user on the market." In the course of his testing work in the ZD Labs, he installs and uninstalls 10-12 applications per week, by his own account, and he has found no product as useful as CSD. He specifically cited WinDelete and Symantec's Uninstaller, as " less than completely effective." The next call dealt with products such as First Aid 98 and RealHelp. He did not mention RealHelp specifically, but pronounced First Aid 98 to be " worthless." His show is one, if not the highest-rated show in the time slot, and has several hundreds of thousands of regular listeners( I am one of them). I was very gratified to hear his CSD endorsement. His website can be found at leoville.com. No product reviews there, but you'll find some interesting pictures/commentary reflective of some of his exploits.
